"Tserniki with pena rig"

The model represents a Tserniki vessel with "pena" (bermuda) rig.
The Tserniki was a double-ended vessel and its name probably derives from the Turkish "Tsikirne" or from a ship which was used in Danube river and it was called "Černík" or "Cirnik". However, it appears that this type of vessel was extensively used by the Greeks, as a merchant sailboat .
The rigging of  "pena" could be characterized as the last before the advent of the machine and the name probably determined by the similarity of the main sail, with a bird's feather formerly used as a writing pen.
